As far as magical girl goes, I've been watching Shugo Chara! lately. It's nothing spectacular but it is fun to watch (and I really like the character designs, actually). I kind of like to think of it as the revival attempt of the magical girl genre (it's been dying for the past couple of years, now...).

The episode count is already in the 40s but I don't think it's licensed yet, so you may be able to get it pretty easily.

Also, Mai-HiME is excellent if you haven't seen it before (it's more of a cross between Sailor Moon and Gundam, though... for lack of a better explanation)

Lol well, it sort of is, and sort of isn't. It's more mecha than magical girl, but it's reminiscent of magical girl.. I dunno how to explain it. i got into it after watching an AMV of it. The first episode is extremely good, though. That much I remember.
